This new "e" variations offers considerable improvements over the discontinued base model. Note the plural!
Seldom do projector reviewers or manufacture speak of total cost of ownership. The typically expensive UHP lamp was a major, unspoken, hidden cost typical priced at $350-550!
Pushing for change is some serious competition from large bright LCD flat panels especially for use in the education market. LED powered projectors are still severely limited in their light output and not competitive in 2013.
So Optoma was forced to innovate or loose market share. Consumers don't know what to make of the HD25 models variations being introduced on an almost monthly basis. The LV model has greater light output yet uses the same 240w lamp! Projector Central asked WHY but Optoma declined to answer:
